A thriller is a wide genre of literature and film, cleverly designed to endlessly play with the audiences emotions and keep them on ''the edge of their seat''. Thrillers have three key elements/aims, and these include: to surprise, excite, and to create tension. Thrillers strongly stimulate the audiences moods, typically arousing anxiety, uncertainty, anticipation, fear, excite and surprise- This is why thrillers are sometimes described as a ''rollercoaster ride'' because of the strong range of emotions evoked during the experience- it is scary, yet exciting. The plot of a thriller is usually based around a villain, that brings about obstacles for the protagonist to overcome. Thrillers tend to be adrenaline-rushing, gritty, stirring and fast-paced. Plot twists, red herrings and cliffhangers are also strongly used generic features of a thriller, effectively adding to the impact upon the audience. As a result, Thrillers are hugely popular, and appeal to people from almost all demographics.
